Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Common Questions for the International Interprofessional Wound Care Course – IIWCC-CAN
If you are interested in IIWCC-UAE, please contact Gulnaz Tariq (gulnazt5@gmail.com) and Bince John (info@iiwcg.com) directly via email.
When does registration open for the course?
Registration opens annually in March for the September course start date.
Do you offer multiple course intakes per year?
No. The IIWCC-CAN is offered once per year, beginning in September and concluding in June.
Are scholarships available?
When scholarship opportunities become available, they will be announced on the WoundPedia website.
Do I need to be currently employed to register for this course?
It is strongly recommended that you are employed with some wound care in your daily work-related activities. This is necessary to ensure optimal success in completing IIWCC components, especially the selective project that focuses on a practice improvement or change intervention in a clinical setting.
What is the course delivery format?
The course is delivered entirely online. Live sessions are held via Zoom, and course materials and assessments are managed through the Queen’s University Learning Management System (LMS).
Are there any mandatory in-person components?
No. The program is fully virtual, and there are no in-person requirements.
(WoundPedia reserves the right to change the delivery format at any time, with adequate notification to students).
What is the Selective Project and how much time is required of me?
The Selective is a final course project that allows you to apply what you have learned to a specific, measurable area of your practice. It includes a 1-page proposal, a 7-slide pre-recorded presentation shared during the second educational session, and a final written project submitted near the end of the course.
Students should work on the Selective throughout the course year, following a personal timeline. Faculty support is available throughout the process, including topic development, data collection, and project guidance.
Do I need to purchase course materials such as textbooks?
No. All required reading materials are provided through the LMS and are included in the registration fee.
Aside from the registration fee, are there any additional costs associated with the course?
No. There are no additional costs beyond the course registration fee. There may be additional costs related to course extensions and deferrals in certain situations.
What happens if I decide to withdraw from the course - am I eligible for a refund?
Yes. The IIWCC-CAN refund policy is outlined below:
IIWCC-CAN Refund Policy
- If you withdraw before the first educational session, you will receive a full refund of the registration fee, less a $100 cancellation fee.
- If you withdraw after the first educational session, you are required to pay one-third (1/3) of the course registration fee plus a $100 cancellation fee to cover materials and session-related costs.
- If you withdraw after December 31, you are required to pay one-half (1/2) of the course registration fee plus a $100 cancellation fee to cover materials and session-related costs.
Is attendance mandatory for all three days of the Educational Sessions in September and June?
Yes. Attendance is mandatory for all three days of both the September and June Educational Sessions in order to successfully complete the IIWCC-CAN. In addition, the 3 Zoom evening Video Skills Workshops are also mandatory to attend.
Will I be a “certified” wound care professional upon completion of the course?
No. The IIWCC is a continuing professional educational course. It is not a diploma or a degree, as with regular university programs and transcripts are not provided. The term “certification” is reserved for a program that has an assessment method that demonstrates ongoing proficiency and competency in a specific skill (such as wound care). Students who complete the IIWCC may use the letters at the end of their name to indicate that they have completed the education, however it does not signify a certification.
Can I use the IIWCC Certificate of Attendance towards a Master's postgraduate degree?
Yes, in most cases. Upon applying to any postgraduate program, we can offer a letter of support attesting to the student’s accomplishments during their coursework. This can be coupled with the actual year-of-course-completion Brochure. Students who may apply for future studies are encouraged to retain their Certificate of Completion, IIWCC Course Brochure (from their actual year) and their marking sheets for future reference. Most graduate programs will allot credits in compensation for having previously completing the IIWCC, however this is determined on an individual basis by each university.
Can tax credits be issued for the IIWCC?
No. Since the IIWCC is offered through the continuing professional development department and is not a degree or program that offers credits, it is not eligible.
Will I be able to perform conservative sharp wound debridement (CSWD) upon completion of the IIWCC?
No. To perform conservative sharp wound debridement requires that healthcare professionals are competent in debridement. Since this course is interprofessional, professional credentialing bodies are different. Significant variations currently exist in: scope of practice, education or credentials, active clinical practice, and regulatory requirements. To safely perform CSWD, the healthcare clinician needs to have knowledge, skill, judgement and the ability to have ongoing competency. A mentorship is needed for skill observation. Policies, procedures and/or a medical directive are needed. This is not possible to establish within the parameters of the IIWCC. Debridement is considered a risky skill and patient safety is a priority. Please refer to:
